Flock of the Seraphim Weapon Types
Family roles you can name without inventing a fake bestiary.
GuuchanDev’s store page promises bows, rifles, even RPGs, and more than twenty angel weapon choices in 1.0. Achievements and patch notes give us the family names that are safe to print. This page is a role guide for those families. It is not a DPS spreadsheet and it will not assign secret proper names.
For keep rules, use How to Unlock Angels. For rankings, use the angel tier list.
Pistol and dual pistols
Pistol Master exists for a reason. Pistols are the default mid-range chip. Dual pistols got a new model in the sword demo update and can follow outfit color, which is flavor, not damage. They want reload and fire rate more than raw punch. If your first run feels empty, a pistol angel is still a better recruit than a third melee copy. Pair them with pierce or Split Shot so the chip continues through a lane.
Shotgun
Shotgun Master is the other early religion. Launch reviews already talk about stacking shotgun angels. The stack works when you walk into clumps and when several cones overlap. It fails when you kite at bow range and watch pellets die in the dirt. Split Shot’s rear-bullet exception for shotgun is in the patch notes: do not expect a free back shot from this family. Use shotguns as the inner ring on starter builds and as the panic button in Endless.
Bow
Bow Master is the line tool. Bows like pierce and a player who faces the tallest target. They are the reason a first boss is possible when the inner ring is busy. They are also the reason people die: they stand still to “snipe” and eat a spawn pocket. Move, then let the arrow work. A bow-only flock is a glass hallway. Keep a closer angel from Getting Started’s two-range rule.
SMG
SMG Master is the family the store copy never listed and Steam now confirms: deal 40000 damage using SMGs. That is a mid-range spray, not a second shotgun and not a rifle. It wants fire rate and reload the way pistols do, and it wants a closer when a clump reaches your feet. A public demo clip already treats an SMG ammo or damage card as a boss-pocket pick. Use it as the missing middle on starter builds when you already have a cone and still lack a chatter gun. Do not mono-stack SMGs on Map 1 and call the empty inner ring a skill issue.
Rifle
Rifle Master is single-target pressure. Elites and the first boss are the job. Wave clear is not. If you recruit a rifle as your only gun, Map 1 will look like a leaking boat. Pair it with shotgun, swords, or scythe. Fire rate helps. Pierce helps when the boss is buried in trash. Reload helps when you panic-dump the magazine into a foot.
RPG and Kaboom
Kaboom is the public achievement name for the launcher fantasy the store already advertised. RPGs hit like a headline and reload like a nap. One launcher is a burst valve. Three launchers is a highlight and a wipe. Do not chase Kaboom on your first ten-minute exam. Chase it after you have a reload crutch and a closer. The build planner will tell you the same thing if you tick too many RPG boxes.
Dual swords
The sword demo update added Dual Sword / Sword as a short-ranged AoE slash. That is melee with a polite name. You walk into the clump, you slash, you leave before the next spawn writes itself on your body. Orbiting a sword angel is a waste of the only range it has. Pair swords with a gun so you still have a vote when the boss stands away from the pile.
Scythe
The scythe is a launch-review favorite, not a store bullet. Treat it as a wide melee sweeper until a patch note says more. It wants the same feet as swords: in, through, out. If you came from a clip of a huge sweep, remember the clip skipped the reload. Read Passives and Stats before you sell every gun for a harvest fantasy.
How to pick without a wiki argument
Ask one question: which range is empty? Then recruit that family. Matching portraits are for skins. Matching cones are for people who already cleared the boss and want a theme. The first-boss guide will fail you if you ignore the empty range. This page will still be here when you come back to name the hole.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many weapon types are in 1.0?
Official copy says more than twenty angel weapon choices. This page groups the ones named by the store, achievements, notes, and reviews, including SMG.
Is the scythe official?
It appears in launch reviews. Treat it as a wide melee family until a patch note adds more text.
Should I mono-stack shotguns?
It can work up close. It falls over if you kite or if Endless wraps you. Keep one long-range partner.
Where do I track weapon masters?
Steam achievements name several families. Tick them on the unlock checklist after Steam agrees.
