How to Unlock Angels in Flock of the Seraphim

The keep rule, mid-run recruits, and why a cute portrait is not a build.

How to Unlock Angels

The store page sells the fantasy in one line: collect gun-wielding angels, keep them after a run, and spend currency to make the next crusade less random. That is the account loop. This page is only that loop. For card text, use Passives and Stats. For pretty outfits, use Skins and Poses.

If you do not yet know how a run starts, read Getting Started first. Unlocking a weapon you cannot steer is just a gallery.

What an angel is

An angel is a weapon with a body. Bows, rifles, pistols, shotguns, RPGs, dual swords, and a scythe all show up in official notes or in launch reviews. Each one carries a passive and a stat block: fire rate, reload, damage, pierce, health recovery. The demo later gave every owned angel a passive and a sort-by-ability toggle. 1.0 leans on that idea instead of treating angels as mute guns.

You can recruit more mid-run. The feature list says you level up, gather loot, and gain more angels while the clock is still running. That is how a two-angel opening becomes a flock before the boss. It is also how people brick a run by recruiting three copies of the same short-range kit.

How you unlock versus how you keep

Unlocking is seeing a new weapon type join the account. Keeping is the post-run promise that the weapon is still there tomorrow. Official copy says you can keep your weapons after completing a run. It does not say every wipe is a full extract. After each crusade, open the flock screen and look with your eyes. If a new pistol is missing, you did not complete the keep condition, or you are looking at a cosmetic roll instead of the weapon family.

Do not invent a pity timer. There is no published drop table on Steam. Play runs, finish them, and tick the unlock checklist so you stop chasing a master achievement you already own.

Mid-run recruits without ruining the exam

A new angel in minute three should cover a hole:

  • No long-range? Take the bow or rifle.
  • No clump clear? Take the shotgun, swords, or scythe.
  • No reload crutch? Take the angel whose card actually mentions reload or fire rate.

A new angel in minute eight should be refused if it duplicates your weakest range. The first-boss guide is stricter about this than a collector’s heart. You can always hunt the missing family on the next crusade.

Random hair and faces are not unlocks. The demo advertised randomized hair and expressions. 1.0 still likes that dice roll. If you want a specific look, that is the skins page, not a reason to abandon a working shotgun.

After the run: currency and the roster

Currency earned in the horde is the other unlock rail. You spend it on meta upgrades and on making owned angels less frail. The meta upgrades page is the shopping order. A common launch-week mistake is to upgrade a weapon you never bring. Upgrade the two families you already clear with, then expand.

Weapon-master achievements (Pistol Master, Shotgun Master, Bow Master, Rifle Master, Kaboom) are the public proof that the roster is grouped by family. Use those names when you talk about unlocks. Do not invent a 40-name bestiary the UI does not show.

When the flock screen looks empty

If the hub looks like it ate your keeps, check three boring things before you post a brick thread:

  1. You are on the same Steam account and Cloud is enabled. The store lists Steam Cloud.
  2. You finished the run instead of force-closing during the result screen. Launch-week crashes make this common; see the crash fix.
  3. You are looking at the club or donation UI, not the flock. Those menus have their own club page.

If all three are clean and a keep is still gone, write down the weapon family and the patch date, then watch Launch Hotfixes. Do not spend another evening rerolling faces.

The point of this page is a boring sentence: finish runs, keep families, spend currency on the guns you already understand. The Angels Hub is the wider portrait. This guide is the lock and key.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Do angels persist after a run?

Official store copy says you can keep weapons after completing a run. Always confirm on the flock screen after the result banner.

Can I recruit angels during a run?

Yes. The feature list says you gain more angels mid-run as you level and loot.

Are random faces separate unlocks?

Hair and expressions were advertised as randomized. Treat them as rolls, not as missing weapon unlocks.

Where do I track what I already kept?

Use the unlock checklist on this wiki and the in-game flock sort, including the ability sort added in the demo.
